And there’s a variety of factors that determine whether or not alimony is going to be awarded. Some of the most significant factors being incomes of the parties and their incoming earning potential. So if you make $500,000 a year, your wife was a housewife for 20 years, she’s never made more than $10,000 in any year, and she has no job training – well guess what? If she’s become accustomed to a certain standard of living, you’re probably going to be dealing with an alimony issue or an alimony claim.
If there’s some kind of disability in your spouse and you earn a significant income, you’re going to be dealing with an alimony claim. There’s a number of circumstances where alimony is going to come in to play. And the important thing is whether you’re trying to get alimony or whether you’re trying to defend alimony, you need to have a good attorney there to address it the right way. If there’s a disability claim, maybe we can cut into that. Maybe your spouse has been playing golf, when he said his back was hurting. Well, guess what? That’s going to cut into his credibility.
And there could be other issues as well.
There could be other issues as far as income earning potential and training that’s available and true earning. There’s all kinds of things that could come up. The bottom line is I’m telling you this because you need to become informed about the various types of alimony, because they can impact your case.
And that’s what a good attorney is going to do, and that’s what we do every day. So, if you have any questions, call me at the number below. I’m glad to help.
